KingCheesecakeCompanyLogo King Cheesecake Company founded by John and ‘Lrma King in 1984 started as a frozen baked goods distributor in a small 750 sq. ft. leased warehouse building. CheesecakeThrough hard work, dedication and determination they have grown King Cheesecake to a 13,000 sq. ft. state of the art manufacturing and distribution company.

King Cheesecake Company is a certified minority manufacturer, distributor and marketer of gourmet frozen bakery products, certified with the Houston Minority Business Council, (HMSDC), South Texas Minority Business Council, and State of Texas Historically Underutilized Business.

In 2004 King Cheesecake began designing and manufacturing all of their cakes, cheesecakes, pies and other gourmet bakery products, and as a result, over the past 24 years, national and regional food service customers and retail grocers have eagerly embraced the company and its products. King’s customer base consists of food service distributors and management organizations, hotels, healthcare, retail grocers, caterers, country clubs, airline customers and business dining accounts. Distribution over the next few years will continue through national food service distributors and partners, such as Sysco.

“Sodexo has had the pleasure of working with King Cheesecake for well over a decade; first as a regional distributor and now as a national manufacturer of bakery products.

I am happy to say that King Cheesecake is currently servicing 18 Sysco houses plus additional approved distributors for Sodexo. Their expansion is due to their great tasting products and the wonderful sales support the company provides. They produce standard products like muffins but also produce some unique products that our customers love like Pineapple Upside Down Cake.

King Cheesecake has been a wonderful partner to Sodexo. They will work with an individual distributor to grow the volume or personally visit an account. Our entire team loves working with John King, one of the owners, because he is so customer focused. Growing their business has been a positive experience for everyone. I look forward to the continued growth of King Cheesecake and appreciate Sysco’s support in this journey.”

“I first met John as I was about to throw his line out the building. He had called me several times and I never called him back. One day, I saw the id on the phone and decided to pick up to let him know his line was going away. After about 25 minutes of conversation, I agreed to a meet and greet and the rest is history.

What I love, love, love about King Cheesecake is that it’s no middle man. If you have a problem with an item, I can simply pick up the phone and call John. He’s programmed in my cell phone, and I’m programmed in his. If an item needs to be tweaked, it’s tweaked! If I need something special created for an occasion, John and his team can make it happen. Our new VP of Merchandise was so impressed with King’s that we just expanded their line with seven new items…

I would love to say I got King Cheesecake off and running, the truth is, when you are dealing with owners/suppliers of this nature, it’s hard not to make it work…..

Watch out world, King Cheesecake is making waves!!!!”

Chanel L. Robinson, Product Specialist – Frozen & Beverage – Sysco Food Services of Atlanta

“When I first meet John, he came to the kitchen like many other sales reps, and; I was thinking ok another item that someone wants me to purchase. But this time he had cakes and other desserts, so as I listened to the presentation and was thinking, okay another not so good frozen product. Afterwards I tried the Lemon, Chocolate Devil, and Red Velvet Cake and was blown away! That was the best fresh frozen cake I’d ever had in my entire career, it was like Magic! I was currently using the more preferred brands mostly because of name and consistency, but the cakes from King Cheesecake were Awesome! The experience took me back to one of the local bakeries that I often frequent. I would put King Cheesecake up to any leading brand in a taste test, and will forever use their products in my establishments! This company also has some of the best customer service ever, I really feel like I have an attachment to them just from their great client relations!”

Why Supplier Diversity is Important to Sysco Operating Companies

• Restaurant decision makers, with whom Sysco does business, are becoming increasingly multicultural, multilingual, and multifaceted and often require “Nitch” or unique products from minorities or women-owned companies.MWBERegistrationPortal
• Minorities and women represent the fastest growth to the consumer/business base, and contribute dramatically to the revenue stream that major corporations, including Sysco enjoy.
• MWBEs can offer potentially a better price for Sysco and non-Sysco Brand products.
• Sysco can potentially receive quicker turnaround and better or expanded levels of service from MWBEs.
• Supporting MWBEs allows Sysco to give back to the communities where Sysco employees live, work and do business.
• Helps M/WBEs grow and to get on a level playing field with other Sysco suppliers.
• Many key customers including the military, national accounts and gaming customers track and depend upon Sysco’s Tier 1 purchases from minority and women-owned supplier partners.

Sysco Supplier Diversity Heritage Award

Sysco is pleased to recognize the suppliers who contribute so much in helping us meet the changing demands of the foodservice industry. To show our appreciation for the outstanding contributions of our diverse suppliers, Sysco presents the Heritage Supplier Diversity Award to three minority or woman-owned supplier partners each year.

Suppliers are judged for excellence across various service areas, including new products, sales growth, promotional support, service and administrative efficiencies. It’s our pleasure to recognize these suppliers.

In January 2010, Sysco announced the 2009 Supplier Diversity Heritage Award winners.*
