KingCheesecakeCompanyLogo King Cheesecake Company founded by John and ‘Lrma King in 1984 started as a frozen baked goods distributor in a small 750 sq. ft. leased warehouse building. CheesecakeThrough hard work, dedication and determination they have grown King Cheesecake to a 13,000 sq. ft. state of the art manufacturing and distribution company.

King Cheesecake Company is a certified minority manufacturer, distributor and marketer of gourmet frozen bakery products, certified with the Houston Minority Business Council, (HMSDC), South Texas Minority Business Council, and State of Texas Historically Underutilized Business.

In 2004 King Cheesecake began designing and manufacturing all of their cakes, cheesecakes, pies and other gourmet bakery products, and as a result, over the past 24 years, national and regional food service customers and retail grocers have eagerly embraced the company and its products. King’s customer base consists of food service distributors and management organizations, hotels, healthcare, retail grocers, caterers, country clubs, airline customers and business dining accounts. Their product market is throughout the U.S. Gulf Coast Region—Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Florida. Future expansion plans include distribution in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama plus other states. Distribution over the next few years will continue through national food service distributors and partners, such as Sysco.

King Cheesecake manufactures over 200 varieties, and sizes of desserts. Their product line includes quality gourmet cakes from one to four layers, gourmet deep dish pies, cheesecakes, sweet breads and a variety of gourmet muffins in various sizes and flavors.
King Cheesecake, can also customize gourmet desserts for Sysco operating companies as evidenced by the development of their line of Hispanic products for Sysco Foodservices of Houston. With a multitude of flavors, varying heights and weights, their cheesecakes and other bakery products are second to none. “When it comes to sheet products such as half sheet cakes, gourmet brownies, sweet breads and gourmet bars our good quality speaks for itself”, said John.

“When I first meet John, he came to the kitchen like many other sales reps, and; I was thinking ok another item that someone wants me to purchase. But this time he had cakes and other desserts, so as I listened to the presentation and was thinking, okay another not so good frozen product. Afterwards I tried the Lemon, Chocolate Devil, and Red Velvet Cake and was blown away! That was the best fresh frozen cake I’d ever had in my entire career, it was like Magic! I was currently using the more preferred brands mostly because of name and consistency, but the cakes from King Cheesecake were Awesome! The experience took me back to one of the local bakeries that I often frequent. I would put King Cheesecake up to any leading brand in a taste test, and will forever use their products in my establishments! Sysco’s MWBE Recipe Corner

To compliment King’s Pumpkin Cheesecake, try Chef Neil’s Pear Cranberry Chutney!

PEAR CRANBERRY CHUTNEY

INGREDIENTS
6 each Pears, (diced small)
1 tspn Fresh Ginger, (fine mince)
¼ tspn Red Pepper Flakes
¼ tspn Black Pepper
1 cup Brown Sugar
½ cup Dried Cranberries
½ cup Red Wine
Salt (to taste)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Dice the pears into small cubes.
  2. Place in large pot over low heat with the minced ginger, black pepper, red pepper flakes, brown sugar and dried cranberries.
  3. Add red wine.
  4. Cook on low temperature until it reaches a marmalade consistency.

Great topping for Kings’ Pumpkin Cheesecake or as a relish on the side.

*Egg Nog can also be added for a great cream sauce.

MWBE Spend

Sysco continues to grow its purchases (Spend) from minority and women-owned suppliers each year. FY 2010 closed with Sysco’s MWBE Spend at $673 million. This represents an increase of $22 million compared to FY 2009 MWBE Spend of $651 million.
