Black Woods first opened in 1994 in a small town along the Minnesota North Shore called Two Harbors. They set out to achieve one very specific goal; to become the restaurant of choice in the area.
Their key to success was in preserving the casual charm of a small town café while providing a level of sophistication found in upscale restaurants. Another location was opened in a northern Minnesota town called Proctor. They opened in conjunction with a newly constructed motel that allows them to offer a full-service banquet and conference facility. Black Woods on the Lake opened along the shore of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota in 1997. It didn't take long for Black Woods to become one of the most frequently recommended restaurants for visitors of this popular Minnesota destination.
