How we deliver
XY Routing
XY Routing is a Sysco initiative designed to decrease total miles
driven while increasing route consistency. The process compares
each delivery stop on an existing route with an optimal route
map to verify that the stop is on the proper day and in the
correct order sequence. This will help decrease miles driven per
route, fuel consumption and vehicle investment expenses while
increasing overall customer satisfaction. Reducing the number
of Sysco trucks on the road will also help us create less traffic
congestion and lower CO2 emissions.
Night Deliveries
Although customers may not be at their facilities during arrival
times, deliveries made between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. have their
environmental advantages:
Reduced fuel costs
Reduced traffic congestion
Better fleet utilization
Designated Delivery Days
Designated Delivery Days are designed to ensure customers
receive the products they order on their assigned delivery days.
Meanwhile, they also have an intrinsic positive environmental
impact:
Increased route efficiency
Reduced fuel consumption
Reduced traffic congestion
Emissions Reduction
We continually upgrade our fleet vehicles to models that are
safer, more efficient and produce fewer emissions. Several Sysco
locations have converted vehicles to dual-fuel units to reduce
engine emissions. This program is not in widespread use due to
its significant cost and the fact that newer diesel engines produce
fewer emissions than their older counterparts.
Also, we are reducing engine idle time and the number of miles
traveled by routing delivery vehicles more efficiently. One
fiscal year 2007 goal is to reduce our diesel gallon usage by five
percent. A portion of operating company executive bonuses is
directly related to achieving this goal.
