In May 1938, Edward E. Hoekzema founded the Frost-Pack Distributing Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Frost-Pack was the first West Michigan, full-service distributor to the food service industry. Under Mr. Hoekzema’s leadership, Frost-Pack proved to be a true innovator in West Michigan – the first to market frozen food products to restaurants, deliver ordered product to customers in a refrigerated compartment, occupy a frozen food warehouse facility and develop a wholesale cash and carry operation. Mr. Hoekzema and Frost-Pack were instrumental in the formation of the Sysco Corporation in 1969. Frost-Pack and eight other independent regional foodservice distributors merged to form Sysco Corporation.
Today, Sysco Grand Rapids services western, northern and central Michigan and northern Indiana. Approximately, 375 sales, operations and office associates work together from several key locations throughout this sales territory. Key locations include the office and warehouse distribution center in Grand Rapids and delivery depots in Alanson, Cadillac, Kalkaska, West Branch, Niles and White Pigeon.
